Ridin in my car And I'm listening to the radio I'm listening to a sad girl sing Sing about how she got her heart broke
GET BETTER NATE!!!! Shoutout to my patna Dennis from Sacramento for puttin me up on this back in the day. 213 flipped the instrumental from Monica's "So Gone" and made a summer hit that every playa can play for his gal. I'm still mad they didn't shoot a video for this because this is one of the most slept-on songs of all-time. I used to put this on every mix CD I burned for like a year straight.
DFB should receive free white tees from Footlocker for life based off this song. Even though Cash Money were the first ones to rock them faithfully, this song is what made them uniform. This was perfect for poor college students and I remember they used to have White Tee vs. Black Tee parties at school. Tall Tees are definately a trend that I'm glad it finally stopped.
"Takin' my hits, writin' my hits Writin' my rhymes, playin' my mind This ------ job can't help him So I quit, y'all welcome Y'all don't know my struggle Y'all can't match my hustle You can't catch my hustle You can't fathom my love dude Lock yourself in a room doin' five beats a day for three summers That's a Different World like Cree Summers I deserve to do these numbers The kid that made that deserves that Maybach So many records in my basement I'm just waitin' on my spaceship"
This song is dedicated to everyone working a dead-end job (especially retail) and looking for a career and not a job. I used to play this song everytime I got off of work from Macy's (ironic he's there in this video). At 4:26 he makes the final celebratory walk from a wack job that we all can't wait to do.
I think GLC summed it up for me when he said:
"In the mall 'til 12 when my schedule wore headset nine Puttin' them pants on shelves Waitin' paitently I ask myself Where I wanna go, where I wanna be Life is much more than runnin' in the streets"
Even though this was shot in 2004 it wasn't released until last year.
Kanye says: I DIRECTED THIS VIDEO FOUR YEARS AGO BUT I WASN’T SATISFIED WITH IT SO I NEVER RELEASED IT. BUT NOW LOOKING BACK AT IT I LIKE IT.
BONUS VIDEO:
This song sampled Marvin Gaye's classic "DIstant Lover"
"I want a good girl, she want a gentleman/ we sayin the same thing like a synonym"
This right here is powerful music that touches on real issues in a dope way. One of my favorite videos and songs and sorta like part 2 of Talib's "Get By." SOOOOO many symbols in this video: the guy being chased by bills, the guy juggling the females, the hazzy headed guy always high, the guy beating up himself, the girl chasing money, etc.
