CLASSIC CUT UP VIDEO: Danny Boy - Slip N' Slide (1996)

I still have this on VHS from BET's Midnight Love. Danny Boy was the teenage singer on Death Row Records who sang the hooks on many of Pac's classic songs (I Ain't Mad At Cha, Picture Me Rollin, Heaven Ain't Hard 2 Find, Toss It Up, etc). This was the first single on his unreleased Death Row debut album It's About Time. Luckily the album will finally be released on April 20th .

FUN FACT: This was co-produced by DeVante Swing (Jodeci) and features Ginuwine singing the chorus. The video also has cameos by 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound.

CLASSIC VIDEO: Mary J. Blige & K Ci Hailey -I Dont Wanna Do Anything Else (Live On MTV Unplugged 1993)

This is one of my favorite live performances. You can automatically feel that they were dating and truly singing this song to each other. The album version was already classic & they proceded to even blow it out of the water.

And say what you want about K-Ci, he is the reason that Mary J wrote & recorded a classic album ("My Life") all about him lol. And I miss when MTV did Unplugged. I don't think too many current singers could even attempt to do one.

This is the first actual Cut Up that I released back in 2007 and include nearly all of my favorite songs (#7 is my all-time favorite by the way).  FYI "QT" mean quality time.  If you pay attention to tracklisting and interludes, it tells the story of a relationship:

  • First sight (# 1 - 2)
  • Introducing yourself (# 4-6)
  • Dating (#7)
  • Winning them over and erasing doubt(#8-9)
  • Falling in love (#10-11)
  • Overcoming problems  (#12-13)
  • Realizing they're "the one" (#14-17)
  • Eventually marriage (#17) (with the bonus track symbolizing the anniversary).

Before this I had been making personal Cut Up mixes for myself since '02 and people kept creeping me for them lol. Shoutout to my homie Joseph Blue for helping me come up with the name for this series lol. When I made my first personal mix at Tennessee State University on his computer our freshman year, he suggested that maybe I label it "Cotton's Cuts" and it sparked me to add "Cut Up" after the slang term that means umm..."getting affection" lol.
